The NSW, QLD and NT are on the Consulate General jurisdiction.

Importante Note: Australia Post Money Orders is the sole accepted form of payment for consular services. The Australian Post Money Order must be on the name of the Consulate-General of Brazil.

To obtain a passport valid for five years, the Brazilian citizen must attend in person at the Consulate-General or apply by mail. Passports cannot have their validity extended.

Items and Remarks

  • Form Documento de Viagem duly filled out and signed
 - Forms are available from the Consulate General or CLICK HERE to download the form
 
  • 3 recent photographs 5x7cm, front view with light background colour
 - Automatic booth instant photos are not accepted. The photo does not require the date 
 
  • Previous Brazilian passport with less than 6 months validity or expired
 - Except in the case of stolen or lost passports
 
  • Brazilian Identification card (RG)
 - If the passport to be renewed has expired more than 6 months or has been lost or stolen.
 - If the applicant does not have this document,  Brazilian birth or marriage certificates or Brazilian divorce papers may be accepted depending on each case
 
  • Marriage Certificate issued in Brazil or by a Brazilian Embassy or Consulate
- Only necessary in the case of a name change due to marriage
 
  • Police report card and Form - Formulário de perda, furto, extravio ou destruição de documento de viagem - duly filled out and signed
- Only on the cases of theft or loss. A copy of the stolen or lost passport may be required.

  • Electoral Card.
 - Exempt only in the following cases: 
(a) applicants below the age of 18 and above the age of 70
 
  • Proof of fulfilment of military obligations - certificado de alistamento, certificado de reservista or dispensa de incorporação.
- Only for male civilians, between 18 and 45 years of age
 
  • Birth Certificate issued in Brazil or by a Brazilian Embassy or Consulate
 - Only for persons under 18 years of age
 
  • Authorization form - Autorização para Concessão de Passaporte a Menor - from both parents or legal guardians for the issuance of a passport, signed in front of a consular official or Justice of the Peace (JP)
- Only for persons under 18 years of age.

  • Parents or legal guardians’ passport
 - Only for persons under 18 years of age
 
  • Authorization to travel form - Autorização para Viagem de Menor - given by both parents or legal guardians, signed in front of consular official, in the case of Brazilian nationals presenting themselves in person at the Consulate General or in front of a Notary Public (Justice of the Peace not accepted). Parents of other nationalities must sign in front of a Notary Public. In the case that the minor travels only accompanied by one of the parents or legal guardians, the authorization must be given by the parent or guardian that is not travelling.
- Only for persons under 18 years of age who travel to and in Brazil and then returns abroad, not accompanied by both or one of their parents or legal guardians.

APPLICATIONS BY MAIL. Applicants must send all required documentation, the Australia Post Money Order and a self-addressed stamped envelope, for return by post. (Many applicants prefer to use Express Post envelopes.) The Consulate General cannot be held responsible for lost or delayed mail.

PROCESSING TIME. The Consulate General requires up to 10 (TEN) working days to issue a passport after the arrival of the complete documentation. Add a minimum of two working days for passports returned by mail.

CHILDREN OF BRAZILIANS BORN ABROAD. According to Brazilian Law, children born to Brazilian parents abroad are Brazilian on the condition that they reside in Brazil at any time and opt for Brazilian nationality. All minors (below 18 years of age) that were born of Brazilian parent(s) must, even if they have not resided in Brazil or been registered at a Brazilian Embassy or Consulate, can only enter Brazil with a Brazilian passport. Children born to Brazilian parents abroad who are 18 years or older, that have not been registered at the Brazilian Embassy or Consulate can only be issued with a Brazilian passport if they have opted for their Brazilian nationality.
