After the Third Revisional Amendment of the Brazilian Constitution (June 9, 1994), a Brazilian citizen will not lose his/her Brazilian nationality by acquiring foreign nationality in order to receive full civil rights in another country.
Those who have formerly lost the Brazilian nationality can now apply for its re-acquisition by sending a petition to the Ministry of Justice in Brazil. For further information, please contact the Consulate-General - consulado@brazilsydney.org.
Foreigners
living in Brazil as permanent residents for at least four years can apply
for Brazilian naturalization. Application can only be lodged in Brazil
according to standards set forth by the Ministry of Justice (Ordinance
no.703, June 13, 1995).
