The jurisdiction of the Consulate General of Brazil in Sydney is NSW, QLD, NT and some countries and islands of the Pacific.

From 1st of December 2002, the CPF registration or application became compulsory for persons residing overseas who have possessions / property subject to Brazilian public registration, including: real estate property; vehicles; vessels; aircrafts; shares of stock; bank account holders; financial market investments; capital market investments.

A person holding a CPF must either declare their taxable income or declare exemption annually as per the laws stipulated by the Secretaria da Receita Federal. If the person does not follow these steps, their CPF will be frozen until such time as the person corrects the situation.

 

Registrations / Reactivations / Personal detail alterations for CPF – Necessary documentation

For Brazilian citizens:

  • Form duly filled and signed. The form can be accessed by the applicant directly from the Receita Federal’s website: http://www.receita.fazenda.gov.br/Aplicacoes/ATCTA/CpfEstrangeiro/fcpf.asp
  • Original and valid Brazilian identification document (identification card, new format drivers licence, or passport);
  • “Australia Post Money Order” to the value of AUD$14,00 in the name of “Consulate General of Brazil” for copies of Brazilian documents ONLY. NOTE: If the original document and a simple copy is sent/presented to the Consulate General, the value is AUD$7,00.

For foreign citizens (non Brazilians):

  • Form duly filled and signed. The form can be accessed by the applicant directly from the Receita Federal’s website: http://www.receita.fazenda.gov.br/Aplicacoes/ATCTA/CpfEstrangeiro/fcpf.asp
  • Original and valid identification document (drivers licence, or passport);
  • “Australia Post Money Order” to the value of AUD$21,00 in the name of “Consulate General of Brazil” for copies of non Brazilian documents. NOTE: If the original document and a simple copy is sent/presented to the Consulate General, the value is AUD$14,00.

For minors under 16 years of age:

  • Form duly filled and signed. The form can be accessed by the applicant directly from the Receita Federal’s website: http://www.receita.fazenda.gov.br/Aplicacoes/ATCTA/CpfEstrangeiro/fcpf.asp
  • Original and valid identification document of the child’s parents or legal guardian/s (drivers licence, or passport) with the original guardianship with proof of parentage;
  • BRAZILIAN MINORS: “Australia Post Money Order” “ Australia Post Money Order” to the value of AUD$14,00 in the name of “Consulate General of Brazil” for copies of Brazilian documents ONLY. NOTE: If the original document and a simple copy is sent/presented to the Consulate General, the value is AUD$7,00.
  • NON-BRAZILIAN MINORS: “Australia Post Money Order” “Australia Post Money Order” to the value of AUD$14,00 in the name of “Consulate General of Brazil” for copies of Brazilian documents ONLY. NOTE: If the original document and a simple copy is sent/presented to the Consulate General, the value is AUD$7,00.

 

Time Limits
To verify your CPF registration or its reactivation you must log on to: http://www.receita.fazenda.gov.br/Aplicacoes/ATCTA/CPF/ConsultaAndamento.asp 30 to 80 days from the date of printing the original form. To do this you must have a copy of the form with the process code (código de atendimento). After this period the code is no longer valid for verification of your request online.

As per a signed agreement between the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil and the Receita Federal, the Consulate General in Sydney receives the form and forwards it by diplomatic pouch to the Receita Federal. The process and requests is the sole responsibility of the Secretaria da Receita Federal .


Applications via post
Address: Consulate General of Brazil in Sydney - Level 17, 31 Market Street, CBD, Sydney, NSW 2000.

When applying via post requests must be sent with: the form filled and signed; the original identification document; an Australia Post Money Order in the amount stipulated above in the name of ‘Consulate General of Brazil’ and a secure self addressed return envelope. The Consulate will return your original identification document as well as a receipt of lodgment. The Consulate cannot be held responsible for lost or delayed mail.


Update pending

There are three situations in which a CPF would be considered pending. “Update Pending”, is when a person does not declare their personal tax in the last financial year; “Suspended”, is when a tax declaration has not been presented over the last two financial years; “Canceled”, occurs only when the CPF registered person dies or when a multiple CPF registration for one person is noted.

All Brazilians and non Brazilians who are not residents of Brazil or who find themselves abroad may request the update of their personal details on their CPF registration. To do so, please follow the instructions above for the Registration of CPF.


Personal Information Alteration
Requests to alter personal details must be accompanied by supporting documentation that proves the alteration to the diplomatic post or Brazilian Consulate. E.g. Marriage Certificate stipulation the change of name, identification document which proves the persons date of birth. To request a change of address, documentation proof is not necessary.

All Brazilians and non Brazilians who are not residents of Brazil or who find themselves abroad may request the update of their personal details on their CPF registration. To do so, please follow the instructions above for the Registration of CPF.


Cancelation

Requests for the cancelation of CPF registrations for those who are not residents of Brazil must be accompanied by the corresponding Death Certificate and presented by the Executor of the deceased’s Will, husband/wife, family member, Brazilian or non Brazilian, resident or non resident of Brazil who are abroad.


Processing Time
The Consulate General requires up to five (5) working days to finalize a CPF request form and the certified copy of necessary documents after the arrival of the complete documentation.
